Extra Credit Opportunity

The maximum amount of extra credit you can earn in a semester is 20 points.

I am not a big fan of extra credit.  You earn your grade in the classroom, not by doing cheesy, make-work activities.  No, you can't "do an extra report" to gain points.  If  you have time to do extra work, you have time to devote extra effort to the normal assignments and reading.

But on the other hand, I like to reward initiative.  Hence, I allow a small number of points of extra credit.  20 points is not enough to raise a D to a B.  It might be enough to raise a C+ to a B-.

Extra credit opportunities occasionally arise.  They are an outside of the classroom activity such as a lecture, program, etc.  As they arise, I will suggest them to you.  If you know of any, please let me know.  I recognize that not everyone may be able to attend some events.  I'm sorry, but that's out of my control.  I will try to offer as many as possible so everyone has a chance for the points.
